PROMOTIONAL PICTURE

This is a 'promotional picture' for our company which will be featured in the CD booklet that we make later on in the project.

I used the program 'Adobe Photoshop' to edit the picture and make it black and white with the red accents as this is the main colour of our logo. I also added our logo (the two R's) to the corner of the picture so it is distinguished as our company's picture!

INFLUENCES

INSPIRATION

The song we have chosen for our music video is 'work' by 'the saturdays' we chose this song after we had researched some other genres and artists and found that we liked this one the best. We wanted to do a girl band so that all of us could be involved in the video and all put our own spin on it and all have our own ideas and use them!

We chose the genre 'pop' because we thought that we would be able to convey pop in a video and we like the music as well. We looked at a variety of girl bands that we could think of, including; girls aloud, the spice girls, sugababes and all saints. We watched and analysed a range of their music videos but decided that 'the Saturdays' was more appealing for what we were going for, as they are of a similar age group to us, so it would be easier for us to appeal with our target audience.

We all agreed that we wanted a dance routine to fit in with the conventions of a pop genre and we all knew that this would be an easy song to choreograph a dance routine to.

GIRLS ALOUD

GIRLS ALOUD 'BIOLOGY'
This video is made to appear it is set in the same place but rotates through each scene so there is a sudden change in set and costume etc. It uses a lot of close ups of each of the girls faces to show their expressions and long shots to show the dance routine they are performing. It also again uses long shots to show their outfits, they have three costume changes throughout the video to fit with each of the three set changes that pans across, so you see it happen. The costumes also fit in with there sexy girly image but are each very different. Firstly they are dressed in black party dresses with a bit of sparkle on them, then there is a complete contrast as they change into old fashioned pink party dresses and then finally they wear all black with red, tight dresses. Each of these costumes are very different but add interest and variety to the video. There are a lot of editing effects used in this music video as certain parts of the girls dancing toward the camera are speeded up, the girls are also blurred and then made to appear in the set. They then change back through each outfit with a blurred effect again. It also cuts back to previous rooms where they are set and pans through each room very fast which is effective as it gives the idea of them being in more than one place at the same time and makes the video more appealing. It also has the girls stood in one spot and in the background does a pan of each of the rooms which is very effective and adds interest.

SUGARBABES

SUGARBABES 'ROUND ROUND'
The whole of this music video is set in the same place, so this doesn't give the video a lot of variety so is less interesting to watch but would be a more simple video to film. This video firstly contains an establishing shot to show where this video is taking place and to set the scene. It also uses a high angle pan to show the band dancing as they sing and then a mid shot tilt down. Which is effective as it adds interest and variety. There is also a lot of long shots of the girls dancing used to how there whole body and get there costume in the shot, in this video they are maintaining their sexy image by wearing very revealing clothes and in all black to appeal to a wider audience which i usually young girls and women aged 14-28 and they are also appealing to men with this image but not as much with their music. The video involves close ups of televisions with the girls singing and dancing on them, this again adds more interest to the video. There are pan mid shots used of the band and mid shots of people dancing around the sides as well in a cage, this helps fit with the lyrics of the song and make the video look more enjoyable. This video uses the effect of the girls spinning around, and has objects flying around them to give the effect, this makes the video fit the idea of the song and makes it look more appealing.

PIXIE LOTT

PIXIE LOTT 'TURN IT UP'
This music video contains a dance routine throughout, with mainly long shots used to show the whole body of Pixie and the dancers, and make the dance routine clear. It also helps to show the costume used in this scene of the video which involves pixie wearing her trademark shorts to help fit in with the image she wants to put across of being sexy by showing off her legs but in a subtle way and also keeping up with the fashion to appeal to her target audience which is mainly young girls age 5-20 as Pixie is also in this age group. This scene also involves a lot of mid shots of pixie Lott for her to connect more with the camera whilst dancing and also mid shots of the dancers foot work and detailing on the costumes which is very simple yet effective. The dance routine scene is set on a roof of a building which makes the dance look a lot more interesting. It also does a pan of the dancers which looks very effective as you are able to see clearly what is happening. This video also contains a narrative story to fit with the song lyrics and has performance cuts put in to make the video more interesting to watch. Another scene of performance shots is when Pixie is walking down the road , Pixie dancing alone on the roof and sat in the car whilst its raining. These contain a lot of close ups to show emotion, long shots and mid shots to show pixie dancing and still capture the emotion in her face. There are also extreme close ups used throughout the video of hands and props such as the phone, this is effective as it gives the audience are better idea of whats going on in the scene and gives these objects and idea of importance at the point of the video.

SHOOTING LIST

CAMERA SHOTS:

We will shoot in our first location which is the main hall which has a stage and loads of lights that we can use! we will use the following shots:

Long shots: these will be from a distance so you can see a little of the surroundings but most importantly the whole person in shot and their costume and movement. this will make it easier for the audience to see the dance routine and what each girl is wearing.

Mid shots: These will be used to show each girls face in more detail and they will also let the audience see each girl singing in her own section.

Close ups: These shots will allow the audience to see certain body parts during the dance routine in more detail e.g feet, faces and hands.

Pan and Tilt: We can use these to add more interest to the overall video and it will also give the audience a change to see the dance routine from different angles.

SECOND LOCATION:

When we film in our second location (the photography studio) we will use shots like:

Mid shots: once again these will be used to see from the waist up of each characters and will let the audience see their body movement and their facial expressions clearly.

Close ups: These are important in this section as there will inly be one girl on screen at a time instead of the whole group and the audience will be focused on their facial expressions.

Extreme close ups: These will be used to add interest and make the video a little different it will show small details like, lips, eyes and fingers!

LOCATION

WHERE TO FILM?
For the music video we have planned a few loactions to film at, we are going to use the stage at college and get the technitions to do the lights and put down the star curtain for us to use and make the dance routine look really good. The stage will be used just to shoot the dance as its a big space and we want a drak space with dramatic lights and this is the perfect place to acheive that.
For the rest of the video we will be filming agaist the black and white photography backdrops, these will be used to film the individual verses sung by each memeber of the band.
MISE-EN-SCENE
The props will be very minimal as we dont have a budget and we want a simple and clean look to the video. The lighting will be dark and sramatic in the stage set but we will use a simple photography light for the backdrop filming sections. Costume is going to be all black for the stage set and then for the individual sections we are all going to have bright colours on as this is actually what the saturdays do alot in their videos! For our make up we will have dark smokey eyes and big party make up for the dance routine section and for our individual shots we will have colourful eyes and tanned skin!
